This official guide will walk you through every step to set up your device using Ledger Live – the all-in-one companion app trusted by millions worldwide.

Step 1: Download Ledger Live™

Ledger Live is your secure gateway to manage assets, install apps, and update firmware. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.

• Go to the official download page
• Select your operating system
• Download and install the app (verified by Ledger)
• Never download from third-party sources

Step 2: Unbox Your Ledger Nano Gen5

Open your Ledger box and verify the tamper-proof seal. Inside, you’ll find:

• Ledger Nano Gen5 device
• USB-C cable
• Recovery sheet (keep safe!)
• Quick start guide

Connect your Ledger to your computer using the included USB-C cable. The device will power on and display the Ledger logo.

Step 3: Set Up as New Device

In Ledger Live, click “Get Started” → “Set up a new device” → Choose Nano Gen5.

Follow on-screen instructions:

• Press both buttons to begin
• Set a PIN (4–8 digits)
• Confirm your PIN
• Write down your 24-word recovery phrase on the provided sheet
• Confirm words on the device to verify

Never share your recovery phrase. Ledger will never ask for it.

Step 4: Install Apps & Add Accounts

Once set up, go to Manager in Ledger Live to install apps (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.). Then:

• Go to Accounts → Add Account
• Select cryptocurrency
• Confirm on your Ledger device
• Receive your first deposit securely

You’re now in full control of your digital assets.

Security Best Practices

Your Ledger keeps keys offline, but safe habits matter:

• Store recovery phrase in a fireproof safe
• Never enter it on a computer or phone
• Enable passphrase for extra security
• Keep firmware updated via Ledger Live
